Is There A Cure For Lyme Disease?

By Francis Riggs

In the world we live, there are many diseases that we can contract both from animals and humans. Lyme condition is one such illness that is normally caused by bites from ticks. The bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi is found in black legged ticks. The bacteria are picked by ticks from biting mice or a deer. If the tick is infected with the bacteria and it bites, you will definitely contract the infection. So, we want to look at the subject, is there a cure for Lyme disease.

Understanding this infection is vital. The initial case was reported in Old LYME, Connecticut in the US. Europe and Asia have also reported having experienced these cases. The infection takes form in three different stages. Localized stage is the first and, in this case, the infection has moved to the body. The early disseminated stage that is the second stage involves where the infection has started spreading. The late disseminated stage is where the infection has spread to the rest of the body.

Some facts about the infection are important for us to know. In the US, the infection gets into the blood after the tick has attached itself to you for 36 hours of less. Bear in mind that, these ticks are usually so small such that seeing them, is next to impossible. In fact, most people never feel the bite or even know that they have the disease.

Even so, you will notice some symptoms. In the initial stage, you will have headaches, stiff necks, muscle pain, joint pains, fevers, chills, and a general ill feeling. There will be red raised rash in the areas the tick bit. The center is usually clear. With time, the rash grows in size. Also, remember that these symptoms can at the time reach the pints, brain, and even the heart.

The symptoms that accompany the second stage include heart problems, face paralysis, and painful area. The third stage will come with speech problems, muscle weakness, joint swelling, abnormal muscle movements, thinking problems and numbness.

If you notice these symptoms, you need to go to a doctor. A blood test will be carried out to check if you have the bacteria. In areas where the disease is common, a practitioner will diagnose the disease at the first stage without any lab tests. In case you have been bitten recently by a tick, you should have people mention you closely.

At the early stage if a diagnosis is done, the disease can be cured with antibiotics. If treatment is not given, you may develop certain complications of the heart, joints, and nervous system. Even so, the symptoms can be cured at the first stage. You will rarely find someone having the same symptoms after taking antibiotics. The last stage is dangerous and can cause detrimental effects to your body like memory disorders, face paralysis, and vision problem.

Lastly, it is always advisable to take preventive measures. So, avoid having direct contact with ticks. Also in the hot months, when ticks are many, avoid bushy areas or walking at the center of trials. Make sure that you check yourself and pet if you went for a walk or hike.
